How to Engage Facebook Fans with Rich Media

Are you wondering why no one is responding to your Facebook posts? Does there always seem to be silence, even after you post a question or a really great news update?

Well, part of the problem may be that you’re not using “rich media.”

Rich media is, in effect, multimedia. Anything that you post that goes beyond words. Let’s go through the three most effective ways you can use rich media to better engage with Facebook fans:

1. Photos

Facebook posts with photos are the most likely to engage users. There’s even a Facebook engagement study that proves it.

If you think about it, this shouldn’t really come as a surprise. Photos, obviously, grab attention visually, and people must click them to get a closer look. So, try using an intriguing photo to get people’s attention.

2. Videos

Video is engaging because you can see and hear people, giving you a better sense of who they are. Like photos, people must click on something to get a closer look at a video. They also take up more real estate in a fan’s newsfeed, making them easier to notice. Perhaps that’s why video posts have the second-highest engagement rate.

3. Interactive Posts

Post a multiple-choice question, ask open-ended questions, or ask people to fill in the blank. When you do this, you’re giving people permission to engage with you. They know you want their opinions. Not everyone will participate, but you’ll encourage those who are already predisposed to do so. Just be sure to ask your fans explicitly for a comment.

The most important thing to remember is…

Know your audience and know how to connect with them. Remember that online videos don’t have to be expensive productions, either.

The American Distilling Institute, for example, got 130 plus new “Likes” for their Facebook Page by using Social Campaigns to offer an exclusive video to their fans:

So, in conclusion, the real secret to getting more engagement on your Facebook Page is to make sure that some of your posts have more than just words. Pictures, videos, and interactive kinds of posts can go a long way in creating a rich media presence for your Facebook Page!

  1. So true! Engagement through video is how I am engaging my customers and readers for my blog. I believe video is absolutely most engaging.

Yes but I have friends who post picture after picture after picture. It seems as though that is all they know how to do and I don't even bother reading their posts. So I think if you are going to post pictures or videos limit it to one maybe two a day. I know it bothers me and if it bothers me it has to bother others as well.

    Hi all,

Thanks for reading! I think moderation is definitely key. People are less likely to engage with a Page that posts too often. The key is to post carefully and, when you post, post something great!

Yes, I'd add that you always want to keep VARIETY! Inform, Educate, Entertain and Inspire with your posts! Use photos, videos, quotes and questions!

I would also add integration between traditional marketing and online campaigns-utilise Facebook as a platform to showcase the progress of your offline activities, such as TV advertising. Smart marketers find the optimal mix which drives revenue by combining the consumer data from social platforms with insightful analytics to reach consumers at the right time of conversion. I think the generic ideas for driving Facebook content should definitely be employed but a more bespoke approach pertinent to consumers' preferences invariably works better. Let consumers lead your strategy not what others think is best:))))
